"Two great sonatas rarely heard. The F major, especially, ought to be on the list of the most important works for cello and piano. The slow movement is on of the most beautiful Saint-Saëns ever wrote - and out of the window flies the argument that he lacked depth ! This word, "depth" is to be found in every article, program note or book written about Saint-Saëns. It is the word to use, apparently, but it makes me yawn every time."
